Management of Surgical Emergencies Course
The MOSES course is a two-day course for SET3 / GSET3 and up, and involves a high faculty-to-participant ratio, offering a variety of teaching methods focusing on assessment and decision making skills for emergency situations within the perioperative period. Of particular appeal are a large number of small group discussions covering real surgical cases – those readying themselves for the Fellowship Exam find this very useful.
Course Aims & Objectives
The MOSES Course will effectively prepare you to be able to:
- Make better decisions
- Reduce error
- Achieve better outcomes
- Work more effectively within a team
- Improve situational awareness
- Provide strategies to get out of trouble
- Assist with Fellowship exam preparation
The course involves a variety of teaching methods including lectures, skills stations, and group discussions, and focuses on assessment and decision making skills for emergency situations within the perioperative period – covering, but not limited to:
- Upper gastrointestinal bleed
- Gastrectomy
- Bowel obstruction
- Abdominal emergency
- Post-thyroidectomy bleed
- Laparotomy
- Complications after rectal surgery
- Intestinal obstruction
- Soft tissue infection
The course offers participants with an excellent opportunity to develop strategy and problem solving skills for commonly encountered surgical emergencies in a small team environment.
Participants must be one of the following in order to register:
- SET3 and up
- GSET3 and up
- Specialist International Medical Graduates in General Surgery
