Surgical Training

Surgical Trainees work and train in hospitals under the supervision of experienced surgeons. The main components of surgical training are:

  1. Clinical placements (or rotations) in accredited hospital training posts
  2. Courses
  3. Research
  4. Assessments – including work-based assessments and examinations

The SET and GSET Training Programs in General Surgery are designed to provide Trainees with clinical and operative experience in order to learn special methods of investigation and become competent in techniques related to the discipline. At the conclusion of the training program, it is expected that Trainees will be able to perform as independent practitioners, meeting the requirements of all identified RACS competencies.
