The unit services the State of Queensland. As such, there is a large volume of transplant clinical material. The case load includes exposure to complex living and deceased donor transplant procedures, including dual kidney transplantation, paediatric renal transplant surgery and cold perfusion storage of kidneys for transplant. There is access to patients being evaluated for transplantation and the fellow will be involved in post-transplant management, including immunosuppression. Fellows will be involved in a large volume of other surgical procedures, including dialysis access. They will also be involved in deceased donor procurement and transplantation procedures. One of the strengths of the unit is the exposure to general, urological and vascular surgeons who have expertise indifferent complex aspects of transplantation. NB Laparoscopic living donor surgery mentoring is a separate urological fellow appointment.
