The Townsville University Hospital
North Queensland Kidney Transplant Service (NQKTS)
Overview
Multiple Roles
Recruitment for the North Queensland Kidney Transplant service (NQKTS) has begun!
The NQKTS is dedicated to delivering state-of-the-art kidney transplantation to patients across an expansive catchment area covering five Hospital and Health Services (HHSs) in North and Far North Queensland. These encompass the Northwest region of Queensland, Cairns and the Hinterland, Torres Strait Island group, Mackay, and Townsville. The NQKTS is a unique service which will rely on the innovative and collaborative strategies of its workforce, based in Townsville.
At the forefront of this service is the specialty surgeons who will help lead this team. Surgeons who have recent kidney transplant experience or holders of a Fellowship in Transplant Surgery will be considered. When you are not transplanting there is multiple opportunities of both public and private hospital surgical availability in Townsville. Townsville is not a rural hospital. It provides tertiary level care with access to Da Vinci robotics, hybrid theatres and is the North’s major referral centre for cardiothoracic and Neurosurgery. The surgical department also covers major resection general surgery, available at both private and public hospitals. TUH also boasts multiple post-graduate training fellowships and is always striving to advance its education for junior doctors.
The successful surgical candidate will be able to experience the sites of North and Far North Queensland through outreach assessment and education clinics. Enhancing access to kidney transplant services for rural and remote populations in North Queensland, with a particular focus on improving the healthcare journey for First Nations patients is one of the main aims for the NQKTS. In addition to being part of a pioneering new service, you will be living in one of the most beautiful places in Queensland. Townsville is a gateway to the Great Barrier Reef, has Magnetic Island on its doorstep, renowned state, Catholic, and independent schools, and a world-class tertiary institution in James Cook University.s
