Role Description

The Royal Hobart Hospital is seeking interest from suitably qualified applicants for a Staff Specialist (General Surgery) (Fellow) vacancy.

It is ideally suited to a surgeon that has recently been awarded a Fellowship in General Surgery (or will be prior to the commencement of employment). Much of the clinical work in this role involves managing acute / emergency cases as part of the Department of General Surgery’s Emergency Surgical Unit (ESU). There is also involvement in outpatient and elective services. The RHH Department of General Surgery offers the major sub-specialty areas (colorectal, UGI, HPB, breast, endocrine) and there would be opportunities for exposure to those fields of interest to the successful candidate.

Salary
A remuneration package comprising the Agreement base salary, relevant allowances and other entitlements will be negotiated with the successful applicant dependent on clinical experience and seniority.

Base salary points range for Specialist Medical Practitioner Level 1 at $216,300 through to Specialist Medical Practitioner Level 11 at $296,640 with further salary increments available.

• Please note that access to the Senior Specialist Medical Practitioner salary range $300,216 – $310,389 is subject to the successful applicant satisfying the criteria for Senior Specialist Medical Practitioner Level 1, 2 or 3 as outlined in the Medical Practitioners (Tasmanian State Service) Award

Period of Appointment
Fixed term full-time day work (with on-call), working up to 76 hours per fortnight commencing 02 February 2026 until 01 February 2027.
