Fellow/Transitional Fellow/Senior Registrar - General Surgery

Royal Hobart Hospital

Overview

The Department of General Surgery at the Royal Hobart Hospital is now recruiting Surgical Fellows/Senior Registrars and RACS Transitional Fellows for the 2027 year – 1 February 2027 to
7 February 2028.

The Royal Hobart Hospital is the tertiary referral hospital for Tasmania, and the principal teaching hospital for the University of Tasmania Medical School. The Hospital provides most specialist medical services for the region or state. This role has been established to improve the delivery of General Surgical services to patients and assist in the co-ordination and training of surgical Resident Medical Officers (RMOs) and Registrars.

It is ideally suited to Fellow who has recently been awarded a Fellowship in General Surgery, or a trainee who will have completed the training requirements by the time of commencement of employment. The successful applicants would each be attached to one of the sub-specialty units (colorectal, UGI/HPB, or breast/endocrine) and have opportunities for exposure to those fields. Some of the clinical work in this role involves managing acute / emergency cases as part of the Department of General Surgery’s Emergency Surgical Unit (ESU). There are also opportunities to be involved with other teaching and research activities.
