Overview
Are you a Specialist International Medical Graduate (SIMG) wanting to practice as a General Surgeon within Australia?
Your initial SIMG pathway is managed by the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons (RACS), who is the body accredited by the Australian Medical Council (AMC) to train surgeons and maintain surgical standards.
SIMGs with formal postgraduate specialist qualifications in General Surgery who wish to work in Australia, can apply to RACS for an assessment of their qualifications and experience for comparability with Australian trained surgeons. After you have completed your assessment/s and RACS has defined your pathway and registration, your training needs will be coordinated by us – GSA – in conjunction with RACS.
The following resources are provided as a guide to navigate your pathway.
