PFET - Transplant Program Selection
The annual Selection process for the PFET Program in Transplantation Surgery will be governed by Selection Regulations.
The purpose of these Regulations is to set forth and establish the principles, terms, and conditions of the selection process for the PFET Program in Transplantation Surgery for the 2026 for 2027 intake in Australia and New Zealand.
The Transplant Training Committee is looking for candidates with a genuine interest in Transplant Surgery, who have a history of commitment and initiative. As such, they have compiled the following guidelines to assist you applying for Selection.

- Monday 02 February 2026 12:00pm AEDT - SELECTION OPENS
- Monday 02 March 2026 12:00pm AEDT - SELECTION CLOSES
- Monday 09 March 2026 - REFEREE REPORTING SENT OUT
- Friday 20 March 2026 - REFEREE REPORTING DUE BACK
- Monday 30 March 2026 - NOTIFICATION OF INTERVIEWS
- June 2026 (date & time to be confirmed) - INTERVIEWS
The PFET Program in Transplantation Surgery is open to:
- Suitably qualified Trainees who have been awarded Fellowship of the RACS in General Surgery, Urology, or Vascular Surgery; or
- Trainees who have successfully completed the RACS Fellowship Examination in the above listed specialties; or
- Trainees who have enrolled for the May sitting of the RACS Fellowship Examination in the above listed specialties, in the year of application.
SELECTION TOOLS
Selection of candidates will be determined by the following selection tools:
- Curriculum Vitae 30%
- Referees Reports 30%
- Interview 40%
The number of offers will be dependent on the availability of accredited positions and may depend on transplant positions becoming available.
Eligibility
Application
Selection Applications are now closed.
During the application period, applicants are required to submit the following along with their completed selection application form:
- Proof of successful completion of the Fellowship Examination in General Surgery, Urology, or Vascular Surgery; OR
- Evidence of enrolment for the May sitting of the RACS Fellowship Examination in General Surgery, Urology, or Vascular Surgery; AND
- Proof of current and valid medical registration from the applicable Medical Board or Council in Australia or New Zealand (e.g. AHPRA). Australian applicants must have general (unconditional) registration. New Zealand applicants must have general scope or restricted general scope registration in the relevant specialty; AND
- Proof of citizenship or permanent residency status in Australia or New Zealand; AND
- Proof of Medical Indemnity Insurance

During scoring of an application, points will be awarded for the following:
- Experience in General Surgery
- Experience in Urology
- Experience in Vascular Surgery
- Experience in Transplantation Surgery
- Higher Degree
- Research
- Publications – quality of journals
- Presentations at national or international meetings
- Administrative involvement and organisation skills
- Other activities – leadership qualities
- Structured Interviews
PROCEEDING TO INTERVIEW
As per Section 6.2. of the Selection Regulations:
Applicants must score a combined total score from the CV and Referee Reports of 70% or above to be eligible to proceed to the interview stage. Applicants who do not meet this criteria will be deemed unsuitable and not eligible for an interview. Applicants will be notified accordingly.
