2025 Virtual Registrar's Paper Day

Key Dates:

  1. 31 January 2025 at 12:00pm (ADST) – Abstract Submission Deadline
  2. 12 February 2025 – Notification of acceptance
  3. 19 February 2025 (midday) – Copy of Presentation to be sent to the GSA office via email

Registration:

  1. Audience Member = Free of Charge
  2. Abstract Submission = Free of Charge (maximum of two (2) abstracts)
  3. Presentation Fee = $180 inc GST (selected presenters will be invoiced)
  4. Quick-Shot Poster Presentation Fee = $130 inc GST (selected presenters will be invoiced)

Abstracts Selected for Presentation

Selected abstracts will be presented at the Virtual Registrar’s Paper Day as a PowerPoint presentation, via a fully hosted Zoom webinar platform.

Podium Presentations should be no longer than five (5) minutes followed by two (2) minutes allocated for questions.

Quick-shot poster presentations should be a maximum duration of two (2) minutes. If time permits, questions may be asked by the judges and/or audience. One (1) slide (PowerPoint/Keynote) must be prepared for a poster presentation.

Questions will be asked live by panel members and audience members, and also via the Zoom Q&A function.

Selected presenters will be issued a Tax Invoice for the Presentation Fee, upon acceptance of selection.

Selected presenters will be required to attend a technical rehearsal in the week of 17 February 2025 to test audio and video settings and run through the Zoom webinar functionality.

Final presentations will need to be submitted to Fiona Bull by midday on 19 February 2025.

If you have video clips inserted into your presentation, please ensure that you supply the video file as well as the PowerPoint file, as movies are not embedded within the PowerPoint file.

Abstracts will be considered from the following:

  1. Australian General Surgery Trainees (SET/GSET)
  2. Specialist International Medical Graduates in General Surgery
  3. GSA Junior Doctor Members (doctor with full registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency)

Eligibility

Guidelines for Abstracts

Scientific papers submitted for consideration should have relevance to the broad discipline of General Surgery and its related subspecialties (Colorectal, HPB, Upper Gastrointestinal, Breast/Endocrine, Rural Surgery, Trauma, Transplantation, and Surgical Oncology).

Case reports will not be accepted.

The abstract must not exceed 200 words.

All authors names should be included with the name of the presenter indicated by an asterisk (*).

All abstracts should include the institution(s) where the research activity was conducted.

The Abstract form is organised as follows:

  1. Title
  2. Lead Author / Presenter Name
  3. Other Authors
  4. Aim – Purpose of study
  5. Methodology – Brief statement of methods
  6. Results – Summary of the results adequate to support conclusions
  7. Conclusion/s

The abstract must be clear and brief. Statements should, in general, be impersonal and the first person “I” and “We” avoided.

A maximum of two (2) abstracts should be submitted. If the maximum number of abstracts is exceeded, the Review Committee will only consider two (2) abstracts, which will be reviewed based on the date of submission.
