Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital (SCGH) is one of Australia 's leading teaching tertiary hospitals. The Hospital has over 600 beds and employs approximately 5,500 staff who treat over 420,000 patients every year.
Located at the Queen Elizabeth II Medical Centre 4km from Perth city centre, SCGH provides a comprehensive range of clinical services including trauma, emergency and critical care, orthopaedics, general medicine, general surgery and cardiac care. It is home to WA's only comprehensive cancer centre - the largest cancer treatment centre in the State - and is the state's principal hospital for neurosurgery and liver transplants.
SCGH has an international reputation for ground-breaking medical research and is home to Nobel Laureate Professor Barry Marshall, who was awarded the Nobel Prize for Medicine in 2005 for his ground-breaking work demonstrating that stomach ulcers are caused by bacteria and not stress.
The Hospital has strong links with all major universities in WA. It is a teaching hospital for medical graduates from the University of Western Australia and the University of Notre Dame Australia

Opportunities on the Unit:
The fellow attends clinic for assessment of kidney transplant candidate along with consultant. There are sufficient theatre lists available for Fellowship training. Fellows have well exposed opportunity to attend and perform multi organ retrieval under supervision. Perform about 50-60 kidney transplants every year including live donor kidney transplant and paediatric kidney transplant. In addition, the fellow will have the opportunity to attend and perform laparoscopic liver donor nephrectomy, creation of AV fistula for haemodialysis, laparoscopic peritoneal dialysis catheter insertion. There is also an opportunity for fellow to involve some research projects. There is a good spectrum of work.
