MBS specialist telehealth - from 1 January 2022

As recently announced by the Australian Government, from 1 January 2022, patient access to telehealth services will be supported by permanent Medicare Benefits Schedule (MBS) arrangements.

These arrangements consolidate specialist telehealth into a single, national MBS telehealth program to provide continued access to video telehealth services for most (out of hospital) consultation items that can also be provided in person. MBS rebates for specialist services by telephone will continue under the ongoing arrangements, in the form of less complex or shorter subsequent attendances.
